The Institute for Building Technology and Safety releases a case study on Sunrun’s quality management process. As one of the country’s largest solar service companies, Sunrun is taking an important step for the industry by implementing this process.
Solar these days is a major success story. And its very success has led to some issues that need to be addressed to ensure the future health of the industry.
As residential solar continues exploding in the U.S., concerns have arisen about the long-term stability and quality of residential solar programs.
Sunrun, a home solar provider, is being proactive and getting ahead of potential problems. To that end, the company commissioned a case study from the Institute for Building Technology and Safety (IBTS), a recognized expert in solar PV quality assurance. Their report, Sunrun Case Study: Full Cycle Quality Management, was released last week.
Sunrun believes that it’s crucial to ensure product quality over the entire life-cycle of PV systems. In partnership with IBTS, the company has developed a rigorous full-cycle quality management process to enforce Sunrun’s high standards for installation quality across all partners and regions. The process monitors quality during the installation and beyond, creating a continuous feedback loop that allows improvements to be made based on lessons learned.
Since Sunrun relies on trusted partners for most of its sales, installation, and financing, this quality commitment ensures adherence to universally accepted standards. According to the case study, the model is “noteworthy and an encouraging sign that the quality bar will be raised across the entire home solar industry.”
As one of the country’s largest solar service companies, Sunrun is taking an important step for the industry by implementing this process.
“Developing a quality management plan has set Sunrun apart from its competition,” said Christopher Doyle, Solar Program Director at IBTS. “Residential solar PV customers rely on their solar company to provide a quality system that will last for up to 20 years. IBTS worked with Sunrun to enhance its quality management process to deliver a quality product and customer experience.”
