OneRoof Energy launches its Military Appreciation Program, an initiative honoring U.S. veterans through the power of solar energy. Empower America, a nonprofit coalition dedicated to recruiting, training, and employing local service veterans for careers in the solar industry, will be a preferred installer for the program.

Veterans have been having a hard time lately. They’ve been in the news as allegations have surfaced of delays getting health care. Large numbers of them suffer from PTSD. And their unemployment rate outpaces that of the rest of the country.

But there’s a ray of light for veterans, coming from the solar industry. And solar provider OneRoof Energy is becoming a major player when it comes to helping veterans. The company, a subsidiary of OneRoof Energy Group (TSXV: ON), today announced the launch of its Military Appreciation Program, a comprehensive initiative aimed at honoring U.S. veterans through the power of solar energy.

OneRoof Energy also announced that Empower America will become a preferred installer for the program. Empower America is a nonprofit coalition dedicated to recruiting, training, and employing local service veterans for careers in the solar industry.

According to a recent report issued by The Solar Foundation, more than 13,000 U.S. veterans are employed in the solar industry, accounting for nearly 10% of all solar workers in the nation.

“We are honored to say that our solar systems will now be proudly installed by U.S. veterans,” said OneRoof Energy CEO David Field. “We have always been proud to count among our team and partners those who have served, and this initiative is a great opportunity for us to increase our business with vets. By providing affordable solar solutions to veteran programs, and by continuing to offer employment to former military service men and women, we are able to give back to a deserving group that strongly supports the solar industry’s success.”

As part of the partnership and in honor of Memorial Day, OneRoof Energy and Empower America will work together to donate and install in-kind solar services and equipment to several veteran rehabilitation facilities, including the Midnight Mission in Los Angeles, one of the largest and most respected homeless shelters in the country. OneRoof recently announced it had donated a 4.8 kW solar system to The McMillen House, the largest transitional housing program of its kind for military veterans in California’s Inland Empire.

And that’s not all. OneRoof Energy will also offer enlisted and veteran U.S. military an ongoing $1000 cash discount on any solar lease or purchase.

“American military veterans are avid supporters of energy independence, and solar energy is key to achieving that goal,” said Mario Pabon, President and CEO of Empower America. “We are proud to work with companies like OneRoof Energy that show leadership in bettering the life of U.S. veterans.”
